Setting-up notes and other remarks for the XCeed X-terminal emulator for Windows (intended for user 'rfs').

Newly created instances of the sessions generally have the security set such
that a remote client cannot open a window on the PC (emulator) X server.
Use Start->More applications->XCeedX terminal(v6)-Tools and then
Xconfig->Security for setting: 'Host access control list' to 'disabled'

For optimal configuration of the emulator for use as RF Piquet, configure as
follows:
Use Start->More applications->XCeedX terminal(v6)-Tools and then
Xconfig->Performance
Set Maximum Backing Store to 'Always' and Default Backing Store to 'None'
After acknowledge the programme will retune your configuration and Netscape
should be all right...

For running the SPS RF Control application it is necessary to switch the PC
Videomode to 256 colours.

While the X-server runs, remember that it is always possible to get back to the
Windows desktop via the taskbar (either pop-up by moving the mouse cursor to the
edge of the screen or, together, ctrl-esc) and then minimize the X-server session
through the pop-up menu (right button click) of XCeed's icon.

It is _ALWAYS_ an advantage to use the Web browser under Windows rather than
running the Netscape client via the X-Server:
- No resource hogging (memory, runtime) on the remote client machine which is
  on the SPS Operational Control network.
- For the above mentioned reason, the maintainance people of the operational
  workstations have installed an old version of Netscape, without Java and other
  bells and whistles. They are not likely to upgrade very soon...
- Faster Web access and you can go anywhere: no bridges, no restricted access
  due to proxy's.
- Availability of Java.

From connections.txt file:

Creating New XDMCP connections for Exceed
=========================================

Unfortunately, Exceed doesn't provide a straightforward mechanism for
defining new connections. Here's the simplest way to create your own XDMCP
connections:

1. copy a predefined connection file to your local disk (eg. RSPLUS.SES)
2. edit it with notepad, replacing the hostname (rsplus.cern.ch) by yours
   (myhost.cern.ch)
3. save & rename (myhost.ses)

You may achieve the same result by launching xsession.exe (in the 'tools' folder),
click on Options, change "Startup Mode" to XDMCP-query, and type in your host
name in the "Connect Host" field. Click on OK, and File->Save As for saving the
new connection file.

Please check the online documentation for Xstart and Xsession if you want to define
other connection types (eg. REXEC, RSH, etc.) or if you want to know about other
configuration settings.
